Tempel & Assisi visited Brazil to learn about alternative education programs

Rossier alumnus Dr. Nicole Tempel (’10) and Rossier Ed.D. student Daniel Assisi went  to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to meet with representatives from the State Department of Education to learn about alternative education programs taking shape there.

Nearly two years ago the Department of Education created an initiative called “Bairro Educador” (Educating Neighborhoods) to improve the quality of education in the poorest areas in the state of Rio De Janeiro. Since then they have opened 198 community schools they call “Schools of Tomorrow.”

Assisi and Tempel plan to return to Brazil in December to continue their collaborative efforts.
