Aime Black (Ed.D. ’12) presented at the Institute of Education Sciences Conference in San Diego, CA, on February 16. Her research examined the comparative information value of value-added, ordinary least squares regression, and the California STAR accountability indicators. Results from her study reiterated that the NCLB AYP and the PSAA API are at best blunt instruments for evaluation and accountability. Furthermore, of the six adjusted accountability indicator systems investigated, the adjusted subject specific equivalent scores (aggregated at the grade and school levels and disaggregated into ELA and math components) were fair, reliable, and valid for use in accountability and evaluation processes.
