CUE Co-Director Estela M. Bensimon was recently the keynote speaker for the 19th Annual Towson University Multicultural Conference in Towson, MD. The conference was geared towards faculty and staff and featured research presentations, panel discussions, and poster sessions. This year’s theme was “Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders: The Role of Diversity in Educational Excellence.”

In her keynote, Dr. Bensimon placed a strong emphasis on equity in place of diversity in order to address and act upon closing existing equity gaps. She used the example of the Equity Scorecard ProcessTM and its inquiry-based tools as one method to close these gaps. Her message included moving towards a more equity minded framework which seeks to encourage underrepresented students and to engage faculty, staff and administrators as institutional agents.
